26 Sep 2007 - Y6 go to West Malvern Outdoor Centre

WEST MALVERN RECOUNT

On Wednesday 26th September year 6 went to West Malvern, an outdoor residential centre. We were all going there and it was going to be the best time ever, we were going because every year, year 6 goes.

Before we went we came inside as usual and went on Superclubsplus. Then all the class came inside for registration. By that time we were all talking about what size suitcases we had brought and what we were going to enjoy and what might be a bit scary and things like that. Then Mr.Jones took the register and if I remember correctly no one was ill (If someone was they would have been really unhappy) then we went in to assembly. In assembly we were all nattering away and really excited about going. When assembly was over we rushed back into the classroom and waited for the coach to arrive. I partnered up with Matthew. We were both really happy about going and getting away from our families for a bit. The coach went along the twisty roads up in the Malvern Hills and eventually we got there.

First when we arrived we got our bags and strolled down the hill and I overtook people on the way down because they were going too slow. When we were at West Malvern we were in the main part of the site and we were told what behaviour was expected of us. When that was over we headed over to this building which would be our classroom for the next few days. Whilst in there we talked about timetables and activities that we were going to do. After that we had to go and place our bags outside the porch of our dormitories, and then we had to go and get our waterproofs and wellies. Once we had them we put them on our pegs and took our bags into our dormitories and then it was time for our first activities. Ours was kayaking so we got our stuff ready, got in the minibus and set off to Bodenham Lake. But to our disappointment the lake was filled with blue, green algae so we came back and did the low ropes course instead. It was really fun swinging from platform to platform.

The next day we did the high pole which was really scary and the zip wire which was really fun. After that we did the high bridges then archery. I was really good at the archery. I hit two or three bulls eyes. We played blind date in archery where it depends on where you hit the target is what you get. I got: A cruise round the world, for one week with Kylie Minogue. The next morning we went to do kayaking (finally!) though this time we did it at Upton Warren. This time it was really fun. I got soaked and the good thing was there were no blue, green algae! Then a few hours later we were heading home after three days of pure fun. If I could do it again I definitely would.

The only scary thing was the high pole because it was just a telegraph pole with a wooden board on the top that was probably just thirty by thirty centimetres.
