2 Nov 2007 - Y3 Visit to Wyre Forest

Class 3 went on a trip to the Wyre Forest, It was a very fun trip. At the discovery centre Lynne showed us a dog otter that had been knocked over. We had to play a game that was called caterpillar, to play caterpillar you need some cards of course enough for every one except for three people, the cards will need to say food and the other cards will need to say pesticide. Then you will need to pick three people to be caterpillars. Then you can say caterpillars turn around and chase them. Hopefully the caterpillars will turn around and chase them. If one of the caterpillars has 1 pesticide they are poorly, if the other caterpillar has more than1 they are dead!!!!! Of course if the other caterpillar has none then they are alive! We walked back but not how you normally do. We had to find a partner then Lynn gave each pair a mirror, you had to put the end bit under your nose and look in the mirror and you can see all of the leaves in different colours.

Year 3 were doing a game it was about water and minerals and how it made food  for the plants and trees. Then we got in to groups of two then we blew some bubbles, water went first minerals went second. We went in to the forest. By Paige

At the Wyre Forest we made a tree using ourselves. I was the heart wood and Jess, Paige and Rebecca were the roots that are in the picture. Thomas was the bark. Georgia was the phloem. We did this in the discovery centre.  The people who looked after us were called Chris and Lyn .There were lots of interesting things in the discovery centre. We played two games. One was a caterpillar game and one was a minerals game. We counted up the rings on cut down trees and measured it then used a special chart to find out how old or young it is. It was rather cold at the Wyre Forest but I still liked it. They had a sort of cider press. It wasn’t very much like ours. That’s where we played the minerals game. We played the caterpillar game in the woods.

First we got on the bus we got there and we  put our bags on pegs and we  had  a look around in the discovery centre and  then  we played a photosynthesize game out side. Then we had to walk a long way to measure some trees and we played the caterpillar game.  By Ryan

When we came to the Wyre Forest we saw a discovery centre and there were all sorts of animals and all sorts of things. We also had a piece of cardboard and in the middle we had  a  square hole in the cardboard so that we could see through a leaf in the cardboard. After that we went to a Wyre Forest shop, we could only buy one of the Wyre Forest things to keep. Finely we went back to the coach and went back to Powick Primary School.

This is me and Ashley W looking at fossils and I am playing with one of the toy dinosaurs. It was called tyrannosaurus. After that we went into the Forest, Lynn led us in there. We measured around oak trees and evergreens. Then we got a sheet to see how old the trees were. One of our oak trees was 106 years old. Near the end of our trip we played a caterpillar game, we had to be a caterpillar. I was the first caterpillar, at the end of the game the people I tagged had to show me their card that had food or pesticide. After that we got a mirror it was very small and we had to put it on our nose and your partner guided you. I saw yellow mushrooms on a tree stump. We even got to buy a toy, the most popular toy was the stretchy dinosaurs.
